I have heard that single women are not allowed to go for haj alone. they have to be accompanied by a father, brother, son or husband.

      My questions:

      1. Is this true ?
      2. Can a single women go with another single women? i.e. no men at all!!

Ask an Aalim instead of the net.

There are no aalims on these forums.

      Are you a muslim ?

Yes its true. Single women cannot go without a mehram. A mehram is one of the following.
Father, Fathers Brother(Uncle), Brother, Mothers Brother(Uncle), Grandfather, Father in law, Brothers Son(Nephew), Sisters son(Nephew), Grandson, Son in law.

      Sister Tanhaa,

As Akif correctly pointed out, it is not permissible for a muslimah to undergo the journey of Hajj without a mahram simply becuase of the dangers that she may face along the journey or experience during the Pilgrimage.

The proof for this is the authentic narration of the Prophet(sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), when he was setting out for a war expedition with his Companions. One of the companions mentioned to the Prophet(saw) that his wife was going to travel for Hajj by herself, without a mahram. The prophet (saw) then ordered him to return to his wife and perform Hajj with her, rather than set out for the expedition ... and Allaah knows Best.
