Pardon my ignorance pls, I am trying to remember and re learn about deen.

As a kid growing up i read namaz almost 5 times daily and i had memorized a lot of the sur'ahs you read after Sur'ah Fatiha but I can't remember any other then couple. Is it ok to repeat the sur'ahs in rakats or does it have to be a different Sur'ah each time?

And if anyone can recommend some Sur'ahs that would be easy to memorize, would appreciate it.

From what I know, ideally it should be different ones for each rakat. The order they should be read in is the order they appear in the Qur'an, e.g. if in the first rakat, you recite surah #100, the next one should have #101 and up. The easiest ones to remember are the last 10 and some of the smaller ones in the 30th juz. There's one or two more things, but IMO it would be better to memorize your surahs before getting into it.

Yes you can repeat surah after Surah Fatiha. It does not have to be a different surah in every rakat.

      I agree to Pakilarka .
If you want to bring all those surahs back to your memory then just open Quran and read them a few times and they will come back to your memory. Trust me on that one.

YES, you may repeat the same sura in every rak'at but that is until you memorize more. i would say u may want to memorize last ten suras , one for each rak'at...because, namaaz-e-zohr has most rak'ats in it...a total of 10 [4 sunna, 4 farz, 2 sunna]. these are bare minimums. there is no limit to how many you would like to memorize. du'aa e qunoot is also a must if you haven't memorized yet.

good luck, may Allah give you opportunity to memorise as much as you can. aameen

On the same note, I heard forgetting some surahs is actually a sin? I've forgotten some of the bigger ones I memorised.

Yes it is a sin, if you forgot it after you became mature. Learning the Quran and then forgetting it is a big gunnah, thats why they say being a Hafiz is a big responsibility.

As for the question, you can repeat you Surah's as much as you need to, but it is highly encouraged to learn atleast the surah's of the 30th para. Imagin praying 20 rakaat's in ramadhan and only have four Kul's to repeat
I remember walking through the park - On the phone talking till it's dark - Laying on the golden sands - Holding hands - Till we got golden tans - knowing one day we gon’ wear golden bands

TRUE...it's really a BIG responsibility on the part of the HUFFAAZ to keep refreshing their Haafizah EVERYDAY.

this leads to another question: most Huffaaz memorise Qur'aan al Kareem at an early age when they are NOT even baaliGh. They memorize because their parents [usually father] had decided for them. the boy didn't give any consent because he was too young too give one. now, after attaining the adulthood, is he still bound to honour the commitment he made as a kid? is he still gonna accrue sin if he undoes the memorization?

i think i'll ask my Imam saaHib on Friday, iA and will let you knopw

Well. Our qari sahab made do the whole 30th, and half of 1st too. Sadly..forgotten the bigger surahs of the 30th (although I can still read along in taraweeh) and most of 1st too. Does this mean there is now an obligation on me relearn all that?

Thank you all for shedding light on this matter and clarifying. On the matter of "forgetting sur'ahs is a sin" (may or may not be correct) is that forgetting how to RECITE the Quran and it's SUR'AHS are a gunah if you have previously learned to recite it. I will actually ask our Imam Saab when i visit the mosque next time

forgetting a surah is a sin? Where did you get this idea? Some people have good memory. some don't. If someone thinks he has forgotten a part or whole of surah then it is better to go back to the Book and memorize it again so that he doesn't make mistake while reciting it. Similarly, if a imam who is leading a prayer forgets some part, others may remind him or it is better to recite those surahs in prayer that he is 100% sure that remembers exactly. How come forgetting something is a sin I don't understand.

Nobody has control on their brain , how can forgetting a sura be a sin ?
In quran 2: 106 Allah(SWT) mentions that Allah(SWT) made Holy Propher(SAW) forget verses.

everyone seems to be missing the point and that is if you forget due to negligence and carelessness...if you do it knowingly. erasing from memory unintentionally or due to human weakness, it's of course NOT a sin.

I searched for the answer to this part...and this is what i found that most satisfied me. http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/65562

Will search for the answer to your second question too...but as far as I know...it is indeed a sin to forget what you learnt of the Quran.....unless you are striving to review and learn for it and Still cannot....you are guilty and sinful, I, myself included in this sin, since i learnt the last 3 parahs of the Quarn in childhood and forgot many big surahs iA will have to learn all of them soon!!
