In my view, the purpose of a discussion should be:
1. To work towards a specific goal.
2. To clarify understanding.
3. To learn from each other.
4. To agree to disagree at times.
5. To not let it become an argument.
Sometimes I feel that a discussion becomes none of the above and by the end one thinks if it was all fruitful. Did the post author get his/her message across or clarify the question, or is everyone's glass full at the moment, that we continue to pour the same jug of knowledge into each other's full cups? I don't know, lets stimulate some healthy guidelines especially when it comes to differences in beliefs, backgrounds, understandings and moods.

Mushi.. some people come here with an attitude that they are the keepers of knowledge where as Knowlege is contagious.... it needs to spread out rather then questioned.. people should tend to read, agree only if in their research the answers out..!.. if they cant they shouldnt bluntly ask question!...
and I do certainly about the points u laid down.
