    i forget their names.

The two angels who write down everything you do - the angel on the right writes your good deeds, the one on the left writes your bad ones.

Question - do they only write your deeds, or do they write your niyyat behind your deeds as well? Like some deeds come out wrong, but your niyyat was right. Would that be taken into account?

    kiraaman kaatibeen....
thats what they r called in urdu (in pakistan atleast)
although i doubt that they have some names mentioned elsewhere....
    wallahu aalam....

the niyyat is the important thing....
Both Halal & Haram r evident but between them r doubtful things, most ppl have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from suspicious things saves his religion & honor, & whoever indulges in suspicious things indulges in Haram.

Yes, thank you so much, Kiraman Katibeen (Noble writers).

    Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him, ready (to note it) {50.18}

    But verily over you (are appointed angels) to protect you,- Kind and honourable,- Writing down (your deeds) {82.10-11}

Niyaat is not written unless the action is performed. When the action takes place only then the niyat is considered and the deed written acordingly.

Sister Nadia I think you'll find the following very interesting.

"Every human being has two angels who accompany him and record his deeds. The generous one records his good deeds, and is so named because each good deed is rewarded ten times over or even more. The recorder of evil deeds is called simply the Recorder , because each evil deed counts only one-fold.

"And, indeed, there are over you scribes, generous and recording. They know what you do." [82 (Al-Infitaar), 10-12]

These angels record our deeds, words and thoughts.

"He utters not any word except that there is with him an observer, ready." [50 (Qaaf), 18]

The system for recording of deeds is detailed in the Hadith Qudsi, narrated by `Abdullah ibn `Abbas (ra) : The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said, regarding that which he narrates from his Lord, the Possessor of Blessings, the Exalted, "Indeed, Allah has defined the good and the evil deeds, and then explained them. So, whoever had the thought to do a good deed, but did not do it, Allah writes it for him as a complete good deed, while if he [actually] did it, Allah writes it for him as ten good deeds, [or] up to seven hundred fold, [or] up to [even] many times [more over]. And, if he had the thought to do an evil deed, but [dispelled the thought and] did not do it, Allah writes it for him as a complete good deed, while if he [entertained the thought and] acted on it, Allah writes it as a single evil deed." (Related by Bukhari and Muslim)"

Thoughts are also written down. If we are thinking about a person negatively it is written down as backbiting, so thoughts should be clear as well..

There are in creation Archangels, with countless Angels under
their respective command being: Jibril (Gabriel)the conveyor of the divine message to all the prophets to whom he was sent by Allah (God) , Mika'IL (Michael)angel of justice, Israfil- angel of trumpet call, Ezrail - angel of death, and Malik(guardian of gates of hell), the angel Ridwan is the custodian of the Garden (Paradise) as stated in Hadiths..

There are "guardian angels" which are assigned to every human
being and who is guarded according to Allah's (God's) command.
"Verily over you (are appointed Angels) to protect you."

    the names:

Behold, two (recording angels) appointed to learn 'his doings'
Learn 'and note them', One sitting on the right and one on the
    left". These two recording angels

Rakeeb and Ateed. One is on the right and one on the left side
of every individual. The one on the right records every good
deed performed by the individual, and enters a credit of +10
points. The one on the left records every misdeed. He however
hesitates to write for some time in the hope that the individual
will repent and seek forgiveness. Failing to repent, the angel
reluctantly records a debit of +l one point. The ratio is 10 to 1,
which indicates the mercy of Allah (God).

On the Day of Judgment these two Angels will present the
individual with a copy of their records, being their good
    deeds and their bad deeds.

Also among the angels, there are two angels Munkar and Nakir.
These angels are in charge of questioning the people in the
grave. And they will show them heaven and hell
