Proof that Quran is from Allah alone as Prophet Muhammed could not read or write:
[62:2]
2. He it is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves, reciting to them His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this Qur'an, Islamic laws and Islamic jurisprudence) and Al-Hikmah (As- Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship, etc. of Prophet Muhammad SAW). And verily, they had been before in mainfest error;
[7:157]
157. Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e.Muhammad SAW) whom they find written with them in the Taurat (Torah) (Deut, xviii, 15) and the Injeel (Gospel) (John xiv, 16), - he commands them for Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained); and forbids them from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); he allows them as lawful At-Taiyibat [(i.e. all good and lawful) as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.], and prohibits them as unlawful Al- Khaba'ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.), he releases them from their heavy burdens (of Allah's Covenant), and from the fetters (bindings) that were upon them. So those who believe in him (Muhammad SAW), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur'an) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful.

Qur'an is from Allah....no doubt. But about Prophet Muhammad (SAW) being an illiterate, I have started to doubt that after reading the definition of word "ummy".
Their greeting on the Day they shall meet Him will be “Salam!" (33:44)

people who thinks that Prophet Mohammad was illeterate are illetrate themselves. And CoolDUde, you are one of them.
Our Prophet was on a mission to teach humanity wisdom and lead them to truth (there is an ayat on it on Sura Baqarah which i will dig and present later insha Allah).Last edited by Pagluu; Mar 3rd, 2009 at 01:05 PM.

Quran is a Miracle, ever wonder y?
This the book, narrated by a person, who never went to school, who have not taught the art of reading and writing, and yet he gave 6666 ayats apart from Sahi Ahadees full of wisdom and knowledge... what would one can call it other than a Miracle...
No one calls Shakespeare's drama a miracle although they were way ahead of his times, no one calls Khalil Jebran's thoughts as a divine wisdom...
Its just matter of understanding...Today a warning issued, for posting sarcastic remarks, good going, from now on, putting up a comment which is sarcastic is against the policy ( and i am not being sarcastic) specially if mods and admin have no idea what it means and again i am not being sarcastic

Quran is a miracle for so many reasons......I'm still not sure if Prophet(SAW) was able to read or write or not since some people translate "ummy" as gentile.

He acquired his knowledge direct from Allah. He was not taught by any human being, but he was the "City of Knowledge".
With regard to the question of the illiteracy of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sheikh `Atiyyah Saqr, former head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, states:
Almighty Allah says: And thou (O Muhammad) wast not a reader of any scripture before it, nor didst thou write it with thy right hand, for then might those have doubted, who follow falsehood. (Al-`Ankabut 29: 48) He also says:Those who follow the messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, whom they will find described in the Torah and the Gospel (which are) with them … (Al-A`raf 7: 157)Dr. Rif`at Fawzi, professor of Shari`ah at Cairo University, adds:
The first verse indicates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was an illiterate, knowing neither how to read or write, before the Glorious Qur’an started to be revealed to him. The second verse indicates that the People of the Book, i.e., the Christians and Jews, knew of the Prophet’s illiteracy in their Divine Books and this is a well-known matter. The wisdom in his illiteracy as shown in the verses is to avoid the disbelievers’ accusing him of having copied or transformed the Qur’an from another human being or excerpted it from the previous books.
However, regarding the period after the revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet, Muslim scholars held different viewpoints on the issue of the Prophet’s illiteracy. Some scholars are of the opinion that he was no more an illiterate. They based their ruling on the following three evidences:
1. It is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed in the document of al-Hudaibiyah Truce the phrase “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” into “Muhammad ibn `Abdullah”.
2. He read a paper to `Uyaynah ibn Hisn and conveyed its meaning.
3. He stated that one of the signs of the Anti-Christ (al-Maseeh ad-Dajjal) is that it is written between his eyes the word “a disbeliever”.
The majority of Muslim scholars are of the opinion that he remained illiterate so that no one would be able to refute his mission or that the Qur’an was revealed to him on separate occasions until the end of his lifetime. They refuted the first evidence saying that the Prophet’s mere writing some words does not erase his illiteracy because of the fact that many illiterates nowadays can write their names nevertheless they are still illiterates.
They refuted the second evidence saying that it is unauthentic.
As for the third evidence, they said that the Prophet’s knowing of some letters does not erase his description as being an illiterate.
Accordingly, the Prophet’s illiteracy is a description that has its cogent wisdom.
Finally, we would like to state that there are many textual proofs indicating that even if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was an illiterate, the Muslim Ummah are recommended to learn how to read and write and to teach it to others, as learning by starting with reading is one of the strongest keys to gaining knowledge. It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ransomed the captives of the great Battle of Badr by having them teach some children of the Ansar (Helpers) reading and writing.
Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was an illiterate. This clearly indicates the Divine nature of the Glorious Qur’an that was revealed on Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) who had grown up as an orphan and was illiterate, knowing neither how to read nor write. This Divine Book meets with the previous Divine Books in creeds and stories of Prophets. Almighty Allah challenged all people to try to create a chapter like it, but they could not, and will never be able to do so until the Day of Judgment.

Just becuase Rasoolallah(sawaw) did not go to school does not neccassarily make him illiterate.
Actually it proves his wisdom was in fact divine in itself and that he was educated by Allah himself without any tutor, therefore there could be no"human" error in his work.
Furthermore Rasollallah actually wrote letters inviting many of the monarchs and political figureheads of that era to convert, ask yourself if Rasoolallah was illiterate how could he have written letters to them?
Secondly if you think someonel else wrote them for him
why was Rasoolallah so angry towards the likes of Khusro Parvez (Chosroes/Kyros) and felt personally agreived upon hearing his message hade been torn apart
Rasoolallah would not have been so angry if the letter were not written by him would he? (Besides that fact could have been covered up by another writter, but if Rasoolallah had written it himself then he would have been bound to ask what happened to the letter, makes sense, naturally.)
Therefore although Rasoolallah did not go to school it would be wrong to label him illiterate, there is a distinct and subtle difference my fellows, between illiterate and divenely taught.
By labeling our nabi illiterate you seem to suggest he had a weakness!
No this is not so, Chingiz Khan was illiterate, Aesop was illiterate, Abu Jahil was ignorant as well as illiterate......
But the difference between these mere mortals and Rasoolallah is that our beloved Nabi was divinely taught,
To label him illiterate is an insult in plain and simple terms,
He was not.
In conclusion one can only say that Rasoolallah was divinely granted an education which no mere mortal can attain this side of sidratul muntaha.
No University,College or any Educational institution can compare with the knowledgde of the seven skies and no diploma is a match for divine granted wisdom.
How else could Islam lay claim to be the faith of miracles, for it's very founders were divinely guided and as long as there is but one Muslimwho reads the divine rules of the koran, Islam will rule.

JazakAllah for tis brother.
Except the two ayat from Qur'an nothing have been given in favour of this argument from the scholar in above post.
First ayah:
Almighty Allah says: And thou (O Muhammad) wast not a reader of any scripture before it, nor didst thou write it with thy right hand, for then might those have doubted, who follow falsehood. (Al-`Ankabut 29: 48)
The ayah is simply referring to the Scriptures like Taurah and other divine revelations, it doesn't mean that Prophet(SAW) wasn't able to read or write at all.
Second ayah:
He also says:Those who follow the messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, whom they will find described in the Torah and the Gospel (which are) with them … (Al-A`raf 7: 157)
The arabic word for red bolded part is "ummy" which also means gentile.Their greeting on the Day they shall meet Him will be “Salam!" (33:44)

Peace All
The embrace of Jibreel (AS) ... before it Muhammad (SAW) was commanded to read, he (SAW) replied "I am unlettered"
yet ... after the last embrace .... Muhammad (SAW) began to read.
This could be explained away by saying the word "iqra" actually means to recite or to echo back, this may be true, but the reply given to Jibreel (AS) was as though word were being presented to Muhammad (SAW).
In which case the point when an unlettered person became able to read was then. A divine education in an embrace from an angel. Allahu'alim. The Prophet(SAW) said:
"I am leaving you two things and you will never go astray as long as you cling to them -- they are the Book of Allah and my Sunnah." [Reported by Al- Haakim - Sahih].

Salam Alikum:
Our Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is highest in authority and qualities from all Prophets, The Angel Gibrail (as) does says to Mohammad(PBUH) to write the Verse on Tablets, he just say (IQRA Bisime Rabi... and then the prophet starts and .. He was born with Quran, Just remember, when Mohammad(PBUH) was on journy with his Uncle Abu Talib and they met with one jew on thier way, WHo said this boy is gona be comming Masseiah,, WHEN JEW KNOW THAT HE IS COMING MASSEIAH,, THEN Prophet also know that he is indeed..
Please do not degrade our blessed prophet from his highes authority and glory.. HE WAS BORN WITH QURAN. WHEN JESUS CAN START SPEAKING FROM FIRST DAY,, THEN OUR PROPHET IS HIGH IN AUTHORITY THAN THE JESUS,, THATS WHY Its only conspiracy against MOhammad(PBUH) to declare illitrate.
MAY ALLAH GUIDE ALL OF US.
