Mel Gibson in "Forever Young" volunteered to be frozen only to be thawed out by school boys 50 years later.....
The science behind the film is Cryonics, but is it pure Hollywood fiction, or can people really be frozen and then live on years later??
Cryonics is the preservation of "legally dead" humans at a very low temperature (below −130ēC) in the hope that future science (bio-engineering, molecular nanotechnology, nanomedicine etc) can restore them to life, youth and health.
So what i want to know is....what is your opinion on this?
Do you think it's possible?
Do you think it's a scam to swindle people out of their money, which is taking advantage of vulnerable people who can't face the thought of death....??
Even if such science and technology advance in such a demeanour and a person is restored in x amount of years, what happens to their soul, personality etc..??
Just by doing a bit of Net research, i find people have paid hundreds of thousands of pounds for this.... but what makes them so sure that they indeeed will be revived, or such revival will take place.... they can't say "oh well we have signed a contract".... won't that be deemed as void, since they will be DEAD??!?!?!

Good topic MAroush.
we can't outright dismiss the possibility, afterall it has proven that it IS possible. If I remeber correctly some bectaria were found alive after 30000 years in Alaska.

It's possible, but the question is from spiritual side, will it be a new spirit or old one, if it's a new spirit, then the technology will do the trick to inherit the old memory ..
anyway, maroush are you going to be cryonic .. ?
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Okki found an answer on soul:
What happens to the soul of a cryonics patient?
Source: Cryonics Institute -- What Is Cryonics? A Brief Introduction
Many people who arrange to become a cryonics patient upon death -- rather than be buried or cremated -- do not believe in the existence of a soul. But many cryonicists do believe in a soul. If cryonics is simply an unproven medical procedure there is no more reason to believe that the soul goes away during cryopreservation than during a night's sleep. Human embryos have been cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen for decades, yet many religious authorities believe these embryos have a soul. The same could be said for cryopreserved cryonics patients.
Cryonics is not in conflict with religion any more than medicine is in conflict with religion. Heart bypass surgery extends human life and is fully compatible with religion. Similarly, cryonics may also extend human life by preserving people for future medicine. Cryonics patients are not regarded as dead by cryonicists. Extending human life is not in conflict with religion.
How long can future medicine potentially extend human life? Perhaps by hundreds or thousands of years or more. Plans of an omniscient God would not likely be thwarted by human efforts to extend human life hundreds or thousands of years. Hundreds or thousands of years is not a significant amount of time in the context of eternity. To refuse new life extension technologies could be a sin comparable to suicide.

Nik, not to play Devil's advocate, but would you not say that life-saving surgery is playing God also?
