I'm no biologist but have been wondering about this: A vast majority of animals and ofcourse humans need a male and a female to reproduce. Ofcourse, potential arises that there might be problems in reproduction (for example, diseases passed on by one of the parents, required effort etc).
On the other hand, a very few animals can have asexual reproduction. I'd think that would be a LOT more efficent in terms of reproduction , for one, no need for a mate and plus 100 percent of kids will be child-bearing instead of 50 percent.
So considering asexual production to be more efficent, as life evolved on our planet, I wonder how did it lose out to hetrosexuality?
PS. Please don't bring religion in the discussion since this is posted in the Science forum.

Asexual reproduction can be disadvantageous because:
Genetic diseases present in parent will be passed on to the offspring and lower their chance of survival.
In case environmental factors change, organisms who are a result of asexual reproduction may not be able to adapt to them and their whole species is at risk of being wiped out. Sexual reproduction provides a variety in genes so if the environment works against organisms, some may be able to adapt to the changes in the environment due to the variation in traits and genes

one word - meiosis. this fellow is like crack for evolution. and the genetic variation sexual reproduction brings in helps rapidly capture up any new niche that opens up for the taking.

Lot of people are already in love with their body, they dont require a partner

Yeah but they cannot reproduce by loving their own body. YB is discussing reproduction process and importance of sex for this process.

Dont worry guyz British Scientist claimed to have created human sperm from stem cells which means women can use it to conceive without men 'help'. Let's see how good their claim is and only time will tell us. But it sure does highlight men future.
