Many years ago I watched a couple of episodes of Parosi on PTV late one night. I was so blown away by this woman and the drama that I couldn't stop raving about it to my Ammi when I came to Canada. Unfortuantely I didn't know her name then but when I explained how she acted and what an amazing performer she was, my Ammi said that it only could have been Khalida Riyasat. And she was right.

Could I get some more information on this great actress, please? I know that she's sadly passed away but a list of some of her famous works would be much appreciated. Any articles or biography or anything of the sort will be do very nicely. Thanks.

I can only think of one actress (Shehnaz Sheikh) who is worthy of being compared to this genius. I sometimes feel so miserable seeing these talented, smart, educated women replaced by untalented, glamour freaks.

    I agree, a brilliant actress

she could convey more with her expressions than with dialogue delivery alone. as if her eyes could talk.

We lost a lot when she passed away, I can only feel sad for the world (and Pakistan) might become without more people like her. She was brialliant and made you believe (with every bit of conviction you can muster) that she was the character she was protraying.

Sambs, you just gave away your real age.

Yep she was pretty good. Her acting talents were challenged by the contemporaries of her time such as Roohi Bano, Uzma Guilani and Sarwat Ateeq and she was right up there.

    How did she die?

Diablo, right on man. She didn't just act; she became the character. She was surprisingly good at comedy too. I think I'm in love all over again.

Spock, I didn't see that man. Gimme the name if you got it, I'll try to find it.

FG, I've seen Roohi Bano and Uzma Gillani's work. Roohi was outstanding. I remember watching one of her plays where she plays a doctor/nurse and adopts an orphan (I think it was Tauqeer Nasir). Eventually the kid ends up falling in love with her. A lot of problems follow including her ex-fiance (Firdous Jamal, he's another gem) and Roohi sends him away. Very depressing story, but tremendous acting. Slick production.

Uzma Gillani is a fine actress too but in her bid to experiment she kinda disappointed me. It was not necessarily her but her coworkers and the storyline which reflects poorly on her.

Another great (and very beautiful) actress was Ghazala Kaifi. Kia baat thee unki.

Plus, Khalida did pass away because of cancer - the kind I don't know. Tragic.

Since you are a big Khalida Riasat fan, I highly recommend that play, it is too good. Thats probably her best performance on television, and that drama is funny too, Moin Akhter and her really put up a show, even though it had people like Kapadia and that one other funny guy whose name I totally forgot. I will find the name for you, gimme a day.

The name of that play is half-plate, and it airs on PTV and Prime once in a while...
