Hi,
I was browsing thru the Economist , and it got me thinking about the different cities in North America. Long story short, of all the major cities is Toronto the safest (this is implied quite heavily)?
Also what is the nicest part of Toronto?
Just a guy in London making comparisons...
Oh well. *shrugs*

don't live any where close to downtown toronto. it's close to work, but it's got the shootings and the murders and the kidnappings and din diharay rapes.
the new 'burbs (oakville, brampton, missisauga, richmond hill) are where it's at right now. good transportation system, good new housing. it gives the small town vibe while being in the big city.

I feel much more secure in Toronto than London. They think they have lots of violence, but they clearly haven't experienced living in London.

Overall Canada is a safe country but when you goto large cities where there is cultural diversity and economic situations are tough you will alway find violence.
I live in Montreal and I find it a safe city compared to Toronto or Vancouver. Montreal has the best transportation system in North America (last I have heard).
But I suggest you move to the suburbs like somebody mentioned: Brampton, Markham, Scarborough, Mississauga..etc

Seems to me this is more a Canada-only discussion. The term "North America" in the title is only to entice readers. Once you guys are ready to talk about North America, then let us know.

Bridal Path is a nice area.
The thing about living in the subarbs is that you must own a car; the transportation service (i.e. GO buses/trains) take forever to bring you into your work area or university (assuming its in Toronto).

It was a broad thread. I was hoping to get comparisons between Toronto and other cities residents in NA.

Yeah. I think Faisal bhai saab was just cracking a joke, since obviously Canadian cities are far more safer than American ones, which makes any argument for "this and this city in America is safer than Toronto" non-existant.
And if you are thinking of moving to North America, I would suggest moving to East Camden. Its a very beautiful city filled with nice, welcoming citizens. Words such as "crime" don't exist in any dictionary there (actually you'd be lucky to find a dictionary in East Camden in the first place). You can just wander across the state and bump across the Sopranos too. Very nice people, might I add.

Have been in Toronto for more than 2 years now.
General impression has been good. But then again, no place is crime free.
GENERALLY speaking its safer as compared to other similar metropolitan areas. (criteria: Mugging incidents, Random shootings, car theft, vandalism etc etc)
