it's this teeny place at rexdale, but the food's YUMMMMMMMMMM
it's halal
ive heard good stuff abt 'lucky chinese' located in scarborough (vicinity of toronto) but havnt been there!
i dont go to gerrard.. once had smthn there (at a desi restaurant) n had a very bad experience, never been there again
try the 'richtree' it's not desi cuisine, but the food's really good. located at the bce place at bay street!

i dislike everything at gerrard street. even the street itself & all the overground electrification. the only thing good that ever came out of gerrard street was paan and manek chand.

I'd say
Chopstix Szechuwan (sp?) (Midland and Ellesmere) is very good for Hakka Chinese
El Sabil (Midland and Lawrence) for chicken shawarmas
Tandoori Pearl (McCowan and Nugget) and/or Tikka Tikka (Markham Rd. and Hwy 7) for desi food. They're both relatively clean and food's not bad either. These two places really offer good meals.
Silver Spoon (McCowan and Shepperd) - takeout biryani
Halal Crown Pizza (Brimley and Steeles) - if you're into pizzaz and Philly cheese stakes by Muslims
Halal Pizza and Wings (Midland and Lawrence) - for their chicken wings

Silver Spoon, Halal Crown Pizza??!!? Are you joking?! These are the places that scare tourists away.I'd be embarassed if I was recommended those. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!
The other suggestions people gave are alright. Although still not deserving of great reviews. As suggested, stick to lawrence or gerrard if you want halal food.
What toronto really needs is a higher price bracket for halal restaraunts. And, I mean RESTARAUNTS. Not these take out joints. I mean real, sit down, restaraunts you can take a business partner to. I'm limited to a golf club in my neighbourhood If i want an acceptable atmosphere and halal food. Other than that i have to settle for the leons chairs, plastic table tops and water pitchers - they do little in terms of impressing guests.

Whose talking about the ambience here? I was only talking about food, be it take-out or otherwise.
Gerrard Street is a dump. I just had to go this week for a project. A truly disappointint place. I got sick after eating from one of the places there.

There are many good Pakistani/Halal restaurants in Mississauga (30 min drive from downtown Toronto).
1- Salt & Paper (Pakistani/Chinese)
2- Karachi Kitchen (Take out only)
3- The Kebab (BBQ Chicken & Beef)
Try apnatoronto>dot>com they have huge listing of Pakistani restaurants in Toronto.

The stuff posted above is garbage if you're staying away from ghetto. I'm from Richmond Hill, so I can recommed stuff that is about half an hour out of Toronto. Google it.
The ones I listed are all Halal, if you can eat Kosher I can broaden your choices.
For Indian:
Motimahal : Hw 407, and Woodbine.
The Host : Hw 7, and Woodbine.
For Malaysian:
Restoran Malaysia : Major Mackenzie and Bayview <<<My current favorite
For classic, american cuisine :
Angus Glen Golf Course : Major Mackenzie, and Kennedy <<<Im not sure if they still have Halal. They did during the golf season. Check with them.
