What is the best way to get from Maddinah to Makkah? I am going for Umrah Inshallah... and I have been told to go to Madinah first as thats easier after long flight from USA... and then go to Makkah... but how long does it take? Can i go by car? or do I have to take a flight? How much will it be?
    Any idea?

    Thanks,

    Sanna

and from flight it will not even take 1 hour.
and the procedure is that there is a mosque in madina which is named as masjid e umrah. you can wear ur ihram from there and do ur niyyat and all from there only and then the journey to makkah begins. but itz better if u perform umrah first.

It takes Approx 3 to 4 hrs from Madina to Makkah. You can hire a Taxi dat will just cost you 50 to 60 SR.If u go by Bus it takes much tym like 6 hrs cost = 40 sr.

We are flying to Medina the day after tomorrow Inshallah and will take the domestic flight from Medina to Jeddah after spending a couple of days in Medina. That takes one hour and costs just 140 SR, ie approx. 38 USD per person. However that's because we want to spend a day with some relatives in Jeddah too.

If it's only the Medina-Mecca route you're looking at, then I think the flight doesn't really save you any time. It takes you half an hour to get from Masjid-e-Nabvi to the airport. And you have to be at the airport at least an hour in advance. Then it takes around 1 1/2 hours from Jeddah Airport to Mecca. So if you don't intend to stop in Jeddah, taking a cab from Medina to Mecca is probably a better option as the overall traveling time will be more or less the same.

I got back to Dubai yesterday night. Had a wonderful time in Medina and Mecca, Alhamdulillah.

I don't know about flights getting cancelled, but the flight from Medina to Jeddah that we traveled on last week, was delayed by half an hour. Makes it even less worthwhile if you're traveling from Medina to Mecca without wanting to stop in Jeddah.

If you're traveling with a kid, I would recommend to get a taxi for yourself and your family. Do not use the "shared taxis" because even though they are significantly cheaper, I think it's more comfortable to have a car for yourself when you are traveling as a family. Also: Try to find a Pakistani or Indian cab driver and avoid Saudi drivers. There have been quite a few unfortunate incidents with Saudi taxi drivers in the past (especially young ones), so I would try to avoid them where I can.
