Hi Guys,

I'm planning a tour to Gilgit and Hunza valley this June (From June 15).. Any ideas about what places to visit there etc.. It will be a 10 day tour so I've got lots of time to visit different places.

This is the first time I'm visiting FANA (Federally Administrated Northern Areas) so any help is appreciated..

Thanks...

No problem of security there.. Northern Areas are completely safe region.. If you go there, I'm sure, you will find it 100% opposite according to what your perception is now..

And.. you can watch the pictures here in the following links:

Since we are talking about Hunza Valley n Gilgit here...I was wondering if you guys happen to know the meaning of Hunza. My friends name is Hunza and she has no idea what it means since the day she was born. SO if you guys happen to know the answer. please reply back. Thank you.

Dear Sufi,

I & my colleagues decided to visit Skardu, Gilgit, and Hunza in August first week. We have only 15 days leave. Can we visit the mention areas in these days? How much expense bared by one person (approx). What about the road situation. Any advice based on your last experience. Can you please told us following expense.

1) Bus fare (Pindi to Skardu).
2) Hotel Expense (Twin sharing basis).
3) Jeep Expense.

Regards

Hi Fahed,

I didn't go to Skardu because Hunza and Skardu are both very far from each other and I had fewer days + limited budget.

15 days are very few to explore all these 3 places, because there are many spots to visit and much of time is taken by traveling.

Also the road condition is not very good. The Karakoram Highway is being redone from Besham to Khunjerab Pass and road is frequently closed because of work in progress. Thats why it took us 30 hours to reach Hunza from Rawalpindi (which is no more than 16 hours journey if road is good). However, as people told me.. The Skardu Road (From Juglot to Skardu) is in good shape.. So its a better idea to visit just Skardu this year and visit all its spots as mentioned by musafirat in earlier post.

You can reach Skardu by catching NATCO Express Bus (Run by Govt of Pakistan) from Rawalpindi Pir Wadhai bus station. Other private coaches and coasters are also available but I found NATCO very comfortable. The fare is around 1300 Rupees per head. Be sure to get the front seats (before no.15) because that way your journey would be more comfortable.

I'm not sure about Hotel rates in Skardu because I didn't go there but if it is same like Hunza then you can get a simple hotel room for 1000 to 1500 Rupees.

You can make Skardu town as your base and from there you can hire Jeep on daily basis to visit different spots. The price will differ to every spot.

P.s. Don't forget to take a map of Northern Areas with you as it really helps you. I bought a map tited as "Karakoram Highway Map-3" (Researched and Prepared by Prof. Manzoom Ali), which is really good and it shows Northern Areas in full detail.

Happy journey
