Simple answer is No. Since Calgary's economy is primarily dominated by the oil and gas sector it has been hit pretty hard. There are as many as 3,000-5,000 engineers who are out of work these days. Hiring freezes are in effect.
I'm from the engineering side, and I worked in Calgary during 2006 which was essentially the "peak" of the boom....times were good in those days. I moved from there after a while just when things started to turn sour, but my friends some who have been laid off tell me its hard to even find an odd job. Just read the stories about how many people came to a job fair for a new mall thats opening up which pretty much tells you the entire story. Calgary is a boom-bust town.
