  • Switzerland
  • Austria
  • France (southern part)
  • Portugal
That should cover you for a month.

When it comes to Austria, there are beautiful places all over the country. Maybe I am a bit biased, because I was born in Austria and grew up there, but seriously, I could fill your entire month with places to see in Austria and you would still not be done with the whole country.

The main places in Austria that you should definitely visit are:

  • Vienna: Capital city, very nice mix of history and modernity. Make sure you spend a couple of days there.
  • Hallstatt: Beautiful little town in the mountain regions of Salzburg. Hallstatt lake is right next to the town and it also has one of the oldest salt mines in the world. There is a very interesting guided tour.
  • Salzburg: At least one day should be spent in that historic town. Mozart was born there.
  • Innsbruck and surrounding areas: The western part of Austria has a very high concentration of skiing resorts. But even if you go there in summer, you can enjoy the beauty of the area.
There are many more places, but these are the main ones which you should be able to see within a week.

In Portugal I have only been to Lisbon, which in itself is an amazing city. When you go there you should check out the harbor area and have lunch or dinner in one of the amazing seafood restaurants there.

As far as I've heard other tourist hotspots in Portugal are the Algarve and Madeira.
