I have a friend and cousin getting married later this year and i'm helping them out with their wedding preps.

Both brides are looking for something unique to wear, they have got a few designs in mind but would like a different colour...has anyone got any good colours in mind which would look good for the 2nd day (walima)?

This thread is open to all - so if ur married tell us what colour you wore and why u chose that specific color? and if ur single, just give us sum good ideas... wats in? wats out? wats common>? etc..

Many thanx for your help!

Really depends as different people suit different colours.. I still haven't decided what colour I want on my valima, so i'd quite like to get some ideas too! I love baby pink, but i've worn it sooo many times that i should probably go for something different for my valima. My sister in law wore a turqoise-blue colour on hers - i think its called firozi and it looked really nice.. I also like the idea of a sea green colour, I might go for that.

Ok, i shuld have mentioned that d colors we have apparently seen quite a bit in our family/friends do's are ferozi and various shades of blue and pink - so something different...

Btw, boths girls have med-fair complexion and dark brown eyes....i was thinking of suggesting a chocolatey brown for one of them and maybe a silvery white for the other...but theyre vry fussy and want as many ideas and variations as possible before they make their minds up..

I wore red/maroon on my valima, I think that's VERY unique.. my in-laws chose it, originally I wanted sea-green/ferozi type color, I was quite skeptical wheN i first heard abt it..but it wasabsolutely beautiful The whole one color for one day is really stupid, just wear watever you love.. Chocolatey brown/silvery white are really nice...my friend tld me she'll be wearing black and turqoise at her valima..i think my devrani is getting golden/black for her valima as well..

Yeah i like the idea of black.. i've seen a bride on one of the threads here wearing a kind of grey-ish black lehnga and it is stunning... what about a peachy colour? Silvery white is nice, but for some reason i always think the colour is often what makes a lehnga and no matter how gorgeous a lehnga is it never looks that great in white.. maybe because desi clothes are so colourful that white can sometimes look a bit bland... but then i suppose if you team it with the right jewellery and make up it could look good...

how about lilac and maroon? its a very unusual combo and i've seen it and it looks gorgeous. think about the inside colors of an onion- you know, the shades of lilac, deepening to purple, and then you can really bring it out with little hits of maroon. the lehenga i saw was entirely lilac but the dupatta, shirt and lehenga were lined with maroon silk fabric. it was very subtle and well done.

peach would look lovely too but you gotta be careful with the shade... sometimes it looks truly awful. maybe a warm peach, almost an apricot?

they could also do champagne with green accents. that particular shade of tan goes well with lots of colors. even just champagne and gold or champagne and lilac would look good.

Actually i just remembered i saw i white kameez recently with kind of antique-y syle bronzey/copper kaam on it, and it looked really good.. it was the first time i really liked a white suit.. unfortunately i don't have a pic, but it looked really good and so unique as that particular style of kaam really stood out on the white..

Worried

My cousin just had a small reception following her Nikaah and she wore black....it was so nice!
The top was halter nect style but with sleeves...the full top was heavy gold embroidery on black chiffon/georgette...only the sleeves had no work on...and the skirt was fish style....in black with gold pattah on a slant .......it was soooo nice....more your evening gown style as opposed to full lehengah...but then again it wasn't a valima/shaadi...was just reception for family and close friends following nikaah

I like the idea of lilac/maroon........I can imagine it would look very nice if it ws shaded properly on the outfit

I wore banarsi green gharara for my valima. Reason y i chose that was cos no1 else here had worn that colour and i wanted something completely different. I loved it.

ok this is the lehenga i was referring to, and my bad, its lilac with a kind of in-between dark pink and maroon.

this is another outfit- im guessing one is for shaadi, one for valima... but i love this one too. its all white, i can't even see any gold embroidery on it and she looks fab!

oh, and no, i have no idea who she is... i can't even remember where i got these pics from but i think her whole look - from jewellery to clothes to makeup - is so decent and well done!

Salam ji

If ur cousin is wearing a dark color for the rukhsati like, mehroon, red or dark pink, she should wear light- colored lehnga for walima, like baby blue, baby pink, off- white, ligt green, feroozi, or maybe a color comination of baby pink and ligt blue, off white and ligt blue... it donsent have to be a lehnga, why not try some thing different like wear a sari or a gown ???? that would look great to.sona he ke aj kal shahrare jale howe heen shadio par..eny way that was I think

i think an important thing is for the bride to be wearing the dress and not the dress to be wearing the bride. your face should stand out and the whole look should blend together nicely....dress color is important but jewellery and the right makeup are just as crucial. accessories can make or break an outfit.
somegroovychick: oooooo love the bride in pale pink and white....she looks so simple and elegant.

Lime green with an antique gold would look nice too, and you have so many colours that look good with it, aqua, royal blue, magenta, hot pink. Haven't seen many brides wear it. Yrs ago my sisters friend wore a grape green on her valima which looked very good, she had green eyes to match and the dress really accentuated her eye colour. of course green eyes aren't a must

The mauve above is a little on the tea pink side, how about proper mauve?

Another friend wore a dark grey on her valima which had this magenta/maroonish appliquι and gold work, that looks good too.
