On my friends brother's wedding, we made a huge mehndi tray....First, we had a huge plank of wood and cut it in the shape of a big flower with 6 petals...then we decorated the outline with real red roses and then we tied yellow flowers all around the tray (like frills...they were quite long)...and inside we decorated it with small diyas and mehndi and roses....It was just beautiful and 6 girls carried it...each holding 1 petal!
I hope my explanation was clear...it was hard to describe...I wish I had a picture of it.

We arranged it from some shop and also paid them for cutting it according to our given design.

The rice shud not be boiled.
We got it done from a dyer in many colors like green, blue ,red ,puprle, yellow.U will find the dyer everywhere in Pakistan ,one who can dye ur dupatass particulary.

Really the Mehndi trays were looking awesum yet the idea was different too.

Well just use regular acrylic paints. Leave the rice in the color for some time, then drain them (make sure you drain the color in another pot so it can be reused) and spread them on a tray to dry. You can use lentils or maccroni (small shapes) aswell.

    Some more tips...

Take your disposable plates, cover them with aluminum foil
Make some sort of design on the border, brush glue, and sprinkle the colored rice. You can use beads and stuff too. Once you are done, just sprinkle glitter on top.
Instead of regular candles, use tea candle on the mehndi, they look really pretty.

You can also use a sheet of styrofoam, cut it into the desired shape and then either paint it with a thick paint or cover it with some glazed paper, etc.
