Theyre not Memons. Those burqa-like gowns that the ladies are wearing (called 'ridas') and the gold topis that the men are wearing are the traditional dress of the Dawoodi Bohras...they're a very small Shia sect in India & Pakistan (esp. in Bombay, Gujarat, and Karachi).
Memons are just a Sindhi/Gujarati business community...most of them are Sunnis, and they actually can be Wahabi too...

Really i didn't know , however very interesting. I thought ''memons'' were a different sect or school of thought within islam like ismaillis....how stupid of me lol.
I have seen them in quetta too, and been told that they were living in minority and were mostly business people maybe thats why my husband figured or thought they were memons.
So in how much do they differ with the jafari -ithni ashari school of thought? Do they have their own masjid?and what do they call themselves? Dawoodi bhori? are they like khojas who r also mainly from gujrat and india?
You can pm me coz i dont think ppl would want us to go off-topic into religious talks in this bridal forum.

Lol no they are not memons.. they are more like ismailis. I am marrying a memon and trust me, noone in HIS family dresses up like that lol. They dont even talk with the funny memon accent that memons usually have.

I dont think i know any memons or ppl dressed like this here in holland. Actually i m not so much in touch with pakistanis at all but anyway.u both have intrigued me to search more about the history of these 2 memons and bhori dawoodis....
