Hi guys,

After all my wedding research, I have decided to set up a business - wedding services, going to start small and see how i get one. I was thinking of names, don't know to use an english or asian name? Any ideas.

What is your main market? Desi's or other?

Perhaps you could choose a neutral name.

define "wedding services" - are you going to be a wedding planner? will you be there from start to finish or are you a wedding consultant who will just let people know what is available where?

i think its better to choose a neutral name so you can appeal to people throughout the country and not just desi folk.

make sure the .com or .co.uk are available for whatever name you choose and then register it-- it doesn't cost much at all.
you can check at www.checkdomain.com
this way when you put up your website, you won't have to change your business name or get a really awkward url- im sure all of us on GS are testament to how important it is to have a good website/online folio.

Your brother is a website designer... Is he like professional? does he charge to make websites? I need someone to make a website for a student association. Could you let me know the details, how does he charge or anything.

^ does one?
in toronto, for eg, it takes one phone call to register your business name. and if you don't register, you can still have your own business and if you're not registered and make under $30 g's a year, you don't have to pay GST (one of the two taxes) either.
its actually pretty easy to get going with a business. plus i'm sure she's doing other research too, outside of business naming, before embarking on this

hi aishii glad i could be of help, what cards did u go for? they have some unique designs henna?

my brother won't charge me for website,he charges others though!

Pakifairy - my husband is a business development consultant and his main work is to help and support ppl setting up businesses, so he will be doing all this for me, including my business plan, business accounts and registration etc etc . He can get me some business grants etc so i can get my stock asap! He will run the 'business' side of things for me. Plus he has helped other ppl set up there businesses, for eg, wedding cakes, car hire business, linen companies etc etc, so i am going to link in with them inshallah and make some good relations. I am going to go on a wedding planning course to get accredited then i can inshallah start small and slowly build upon that. All businesses start from scratch so i don't plan on giving up my day job just yet!

my reason for this thread was just for ideas to get a good name, nothing else really.......i didn't expect assumptions to be made about how much I knew and that 'im in over my head'. After all this is a forum for constructive advice and discussion.

Silsila; are you planning to set up this business for desi's, should the name have a desi 'touch' to it?

would like to cater to both markets, so its hard to find an unusual neutral name? hence the thread!

^ i just checked and its already been registered though for the UK, sadly :/
although you could use your actual name and have that be your URL for your business, whatever your business name is. and i'm pretty sure yourActualName.com/.co.uk would still be available.
cos you'd have both your name and the business name on your business card, right, so it makes sense in that way.

or, say your name was Ex Whyzed. you could say

Ex Whyzed
Wedding Consultant

ph. number
email address
www.exwhyzed.co.uk

(note, i have no idea if this is a real URL and im not about to test it at work, so be careful before clicking it!)
