Hi guys,

so I recently got married and eid is coming up

when I go to eid, I notice that the newly wed girls tend to stand out with their heavy clothes, heavy makeup and heavy jewellery

im an ABCD so to me this is way too much but now eid is coming along so do you guys think I should go all out or should I just do what I usually do which is simple and classy

i was thinking of just doing more than i usually do but I dont know whats good enough, do you guys have any suggestions/pics of what would be good?

thank you so much

Congratulations LD!!
hmm...well i would stick to my taste and spice it up a bit....not too simple that you would blend in.....do a tikka..and earrings...with flowly hair and a pretty dupatta setting...
or you can do a nice updo with a choker....again..play around with your dupatta and accessories...a nice pouch/clutch...a cocktail ring..and either bangles OR karas....
have fun!

Thats what she said.

I think that since you're newly married, you should enjoy the first eid and dress up really nice because this eid will always be more special than the rest. However, keep a balance so that it's not uncomfortable for you as a person since you're used to staying simple. Do what you're comfy with and what you can carry off.

Are you in the States of Pk? Cause in my experience here girls don't really dress up more after getting married, I think single girls dress up more to snag boys but if you are in Pk they dress like super dulhans after getting married and people might think you are not happy or dn't have nice clothes if you don't wear them, so you should do it up, or if you don't do it up with clothes wear really expensive jewlery. I am also ABCD but I've been to pk a lot.

Oh I also heard that in Pk they do not want new dulhans to wear black or white or other dull colors. Not sure if that's true

first eid should fefinitely be special (but so should every eid), however, how MUCH you dress up wont necessarily determine how special the eid is. the moments, what you did, the compliments, the fun is what makes it special.

go for what youre comfortable and happy in, so you can have more fun.

I just haven't noticed a tradition of 'dulhans' dressing definately I mean if there's a general level of dressiness then you maintain it, but women tend to dress down as they get married i guess that's the trend here... the young girls dress up a lot more as I mentioned casue they are the ones trying to get attention ....

Alienated

Oh, yess! First eid after getting married is a big thing here. My MIL wanted me to look like a dulhan all decked up complete with mehndi coming up till elbows, a tikka and of course gajrae (flowers). LOL! I had so much fun with all the relatives coming and going admiring my MIL's obediant bahu even when hubby was on duty that day. Still remember that.

And yes, if I wear black or white or any pastel colour in front of my MIL, I still get that look of distaste even after six years of marriage and two kids.

I am a lot ore colourful now than I was pre-marriage.

That said, the yellow jora is simply has the first-eid-after-marriage look and I simply adore it. I just wish I was that fair to carry off the colour.

Lose the matha patti, add more mehndi, glass bangles and flowers and you are ready to meet the relatives on eid.

Come to think of it, I still want that dress. More pics anyone? I would love to see the whole combo.

A few other ideas:

Cheeky

LD- its my first Eid after marriage this year and just like you I'm an ABCD who was confused about what to do with myself for that day lol.

I just bought my dress this weekend with hubby and its gorgeous. Green and tomato red, full sleeves, heavy dupatta with zardosi kaam, oh gorgeous will post pics guys!!

Anyway I think as it is our first Eid as married women, we should dress up and look nice. I mean why not? However, as someone here mentioned make sure it is within your comfort level. Look good but have fun doing it!

Absolutely agreed! We dress up way more in dawats! In Pakistan we used to dress in lawn clothes and stuff for milads and here even for that people are all decked up!!

Mellow

congratulations, missy!!!! how did the wedding go? will we be lucky enough to see some pictures sometime?

you know what, your first Eid isn't coming around again, so celebrate it! dress up and go the whole nine yards- relish being the new dulhan and that specialness surrounding you its a good feeling!

i wore a black sari with tons of sequins and some dark pink piping on the edges for my first eid with my mom's nauratan set. it looked great! so i say, if you've got something gorgeous in black, go ahead and wear it- if its dressy enough, theres nothing for people to complain about.

What's wrong with single girls wearing gold jewelry?
As long as it's tasteful and compliments your outfit, there's nothing wrong with it.
