Hi All

I am going to Karchi in Feb and have 2 weeks to find a wedding outfit and Walima outfit and Mendhi Outfit and Registy outfit...and my dulhas outfit....oh and also all my jewellery, shoes the works! All in 2 weeks!

Does anyone know any good shops in Karachi? Anywhere in Karachi?

I've been to Bargellos site and their clothes look amazing and they have a boutique in Defence...any good?

HELP

WHEN U R GOING TO KARACHI U DONT NEED BARGELLO :P
Go to zamzama for all the designer boutiques...mohsin sons and other shops like tht for ur ready made bridals...i saw some shops opposite rabi centre they had good variety there r some shoe/purses store's @ forum....for ur dulha u can go to amir adnan at zamzama or for cheaper stuff go to mehboob market near zainab market and dont waste a single day visiting ur relatives in kar as its not gonna be easy 2 weeks r very less...plan now for each day of shopping....i loved the kaam at kehkashan but i think they work on orders...theres this boutique in zamzama called neelams i liked her work a lot and there;s a designer store on the main road i think its called designers they have dresses by various designers and i got some pretty decent jewlery from Gulf( i think it was gulf or ashiana) its a new shop urghh forgot its name its maha or something like tht will confirm u the name

yeh the shop called 'designers' in kehkashan is awesome but they charge relatively more than what other people charge at kehkashan, at the same time they have different stuff and very good quality of kaam and fabrics. however, they take A LOT of time. designers on zamzama also take a lot of time and feb is still shaadi season there. on my wedding, my sister got a lehnga made from 'designers' at kehkashan, although the kaam was superb (exact replica of a karma outfit) they had an awful tailor that didnt know how to do lehngas so he basically messed it up and we yelled at them for days and demanded they make a compelte new one and we got it sewn by our own tailor. if ur getting anything but a lehnga made thru them im sure it will come out looking fantastic. the real shop called 'the designers' have dresses from HSY, Karma, Nomi Ansari, and Sublime.

Thanks Gilrs!

Is kehkashan a shop or a mall and where is it??

So bargello is out of the pic...gutted!!

What about Indusmart? They have excellent stuff too...

So main place to go is zamzama then...

The worst thing is i am going to Pakistan for 2 weeks but only to Karachi for 1 week as my mum feels the need to go to and see her bros and sisters back in Jhang!!

I was thinking of doing Tariq road as soon as I get there and then ZamZama and Park Towers the 2nd day and then the 3rd day go to the place where I found the nicest clothes...sounds doable??

^ kehkashan is right across from gulf shopping mall. if you are looking for the nicest clothes dont waste ur time by going to tariq road. also just a bit of advice, nothing on zamzama opens before 11. i found out by going there at like 10 and waiting till 11 for the stores to open up cuz everything was closed. good luck!

just got back from pakistan... go to ashiana, gulf and uzma for fabric options if you want to make something from scratch, and the good kaam walas are in gizri. expect to pay anywhere from 30,000 up, depending on how elaborate the kaam. for readymade's, the boutiques are on zamzama. the best dyers in the city are khwaja dyers on tariq road.

oh, and check out bareeze's home line in case you need some really pretty bedding or cushions *drool* i bought quite a bit from there in the end. also their chinyere line has some really pretty semi-formals and amazing evening purses. they also offer free alterations if the sizing is off.

also, go with some idea of what you want because the options are ENDLESS- just the colors alone make you want to buy one of everything! and like sumo said, most stores open around 12-1 so plan your day accordingly. having a driver and a car is a blessing too! try not to speak in english when you're shopping or look overly interested because thats going to instantly drive the price up. and go with someone who knows how to bargain because store keepers WILL come down in price.

SGC welcome back! How was your experience? How long did you stay there? Did you go to Karma?

WOW, thanks a bunch girls!

So no time wasting at Tariq Road then!

I know what i want, well kind of but would be nice to see what's out there too...maybe get some ideas from Zamzama and if i cant find anything ready made then go to Kehkashan, Ashiana, Gulf and Uzma for fabric and Gizri for embroidery...sounds like a plan!

SGC - 30,000 up is very steep....hope you did mean 3 000...otherwise its cheaper to get stuff from here... Bit cheeky but if you don't mid how much was your wedding dress? I want to get a rough idea of what i'll be spending...friends of mine got really pretty dresses for about 30, 000 from pakistan so i was thinking i could get something very special for about 60, 000. I don't really care if it's designer or not...sounds realistic?

How long do the Kaam walas at Gizri take to do all the embroidery?

Oh and any idea about jewellery? I have a feelimg i'm going to get a very small Walima set from the inlaws so i might have to make a fake gold lookalikey set...where's the best place for that?

Oh and shoes???

Sole is good for shoes in teh Clifton area along with English Boothouse. people also like Metro at Tariq Road but I don't much. Tariq Road does have reasonably priced stuff so you can check it out, no harm. I like Gulf too, its reasonably priced as well but TariqRoad is bigger.
