I admire weddings in Pakistan but one thing which really annoys me is that people put a lot of time and effort in planning a wedding and when it comes to serving the food, once the guest have eaten, they disappear like a magic trick! Hehe.
I always feel family members abroad are faaaaar more considerate then in Pakistan! We like enjoying the event rather then the food. But in Pakistan it’s a whole different ball game!
What do you guys think??

I guess its a cultural thing, they come to the wedding hungry, they wait n wait n wait so their expectation of food builds to a climax, eat, and then there's nothing to look forward to anymore so they go.
They don't come to admire the bride and groom or for the ambience, they come for the food.
One must make a mark in this world, if I am remembered for anything, let it be cheese and crackers...

Haha, well said.
I remember I was at my bros wedding. It was the mehndi function, and after the dinner we were going to perform our dances. Then you see 75% of the guests near the exits! I think the seats also decided to move too!! Hehe.
Its a shame as it brings your morale down...

uhh ppl leave b/c after you eat that is the close family/relatives time to enjoy and take pics. but our weddings are purely religious, so after dua and food ppl leave and are expected to leave..for others it may be diff.

well let them leave, then at least you know the ones who are still around actually care (they're more likely to be close friends + family instead of distant aunties you haven't seen in 10+ years)
I'd rather have all the fun stuff like dancing, photos etc after some people have left... but I agree its not as bad in desis living abroad

Don't have your weddings so bloody late and ppl won't leave. One hour behind schedule is one thing, when you say 7 PM for dinner, and people just start showing up at 10, u expect everyone to stay? that's why most weddigns in pak aren't even worth putting in so much effort (Decorations/guest gifts etc) cz the ppl aren't worth it!
Oh and as long as ppl leave their salami/gift.. who cares i they stay

I MUST agree with the late timings! Being punctual is a word which doesnt exist in the pakistani dictionary!
You tell your guest to be on time, and they turn up and 11-12!!!!
Somethings will never change........

Thats it..the events are so late that its ridiculous, its not just a matter of people leaving after dinner (AKA midnight snack) is served but because of the time.
There probably are people who would bail after dinner even if it was served on time. Much of it depends on how close they are to everyone else. I mean if you showed up, saw the marriage ceremony, talked to some ppl and had dinner, what should you hang around for aside from the ruqsatti?
I may sound like a selfish git but if someone is seving dinner at 11:30 and then the dreaded picture sessions start where everyone has to have the pics with the bride and groom and much much later when everyone is just completely tired, the ruqsatti starts, then really unless it is a close friend of family member, there is no reason to stick around.
Even desi shaddis in US, since I have small kids, I usually go in at a certain time and leave at a certain time, whether the dinner is served or not, nikah has taken place or not, or bride and groom have arrived or not. if you are running late, that is your choice and its your event, no hard feelings, but you do what you need to do and I will do what I need to do.

^^ I agree with X2
The timing is the issue-
My best friend was visiting pakistan 2 yrs ago and she went to her friends wedding and she said she was ready to fall asleep at 10 pm at her house- while everybody was getting READY to head out to the wedding- What is up with this desi standard time- might as well read nikkah during fajr-
U.S. weddings- are far more different- for my siters wedding we wrote on the card baraat comes in at 7:00pm and bc of this stupid desi standard time- or they wanted to b fashionably LATE(not that anyone cared for them) those people came while dinner time- and they left right after eating- its ruding walking in LATE THEN HAVING THE NERVE TO walk out right after dinner-
OH- then i loveeee how they complain OH we didnt even get to EAT-- bc we were so busy helping around-waiting in line to take ppictures with the bride and groom- HAHAHA MY @$$ helping around- we saw the video and saw how much was stuffed on their plates!

yeah i agree. It's funny how people that show up last end up leaving first, right after the food is served... *rolling eyes*

forget about Pak, I had an Eid party last year HERE in US and a couple came SO late, they kept telling us they're on the way so we had to wait for them before serving food and they came, ate and left RIGHT AFTER. That was some desiness....

It's a ridiculous trend specially in Karachi to start the wedding rituals at midnight or later..people start coming in at like 11-12is...it was insane and drove me absolutely crazy. Almost all wedding I attended there, me and my husband left even before the food was served.
Best things in life aren't things..

They eat the food and disappear to the bathrooms
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

i hate to leave right after dinner...... but thats how it is.... it is pure family and close friends time after that..... we have segregated weddings.... so after dinner the groom comes to the bride side..... so then everyone is at the stage.... and all the male hosts also come in.... coz its their ghar ki shaadi..... tu rest leave..... but like at my friend's wedding we stayed until ruksati time.
its kind of good.... that the host doesn't have to give special special attention to those who are just there to tell them.... we are happy for u and our duas are with the couple and the family. the ones who want to stay they can stay longer.......
all the speeches and duas at our weddings happen between appitizers and dinner. so ppl dont really get that bored...
plus i think u invite ppl for dinner.... thats why its on the card... warna there would be nothing about food if u expect them to stay uptill ruksati. why mention dinner and lunch
