okay so I have issues with this one... my valima jora is gonna be pink and silver- its got these big stones in it. But the thing is that my saas has a gold set that shes brought. She hasnt told me yet but I have a feelin she wants me to wear it on the valima- but it'll totally clash with the whole suit!!

its not too much to ask to wear a fake set is it? One of my sil commented earlier that what wud ppl say if the girl didnt wear gold- it'll be like the boys side didnt give a gold set. Which i think is ridiculous!

I was thinkin of gettin a fake silver one. What do u guys think? can anybody recommend any desi shops that stock nice silver jewellery in the UK?

everyone i know wears fake jewelry to wedding/valima because it's matching and not a huge waste of money for something their not gonna wear again. Plus they look so real no one asks...i'd say do what you want- you don't want regrets....

umm wow if they get u a gold set with yur silver n pink joora thats just a crime right there! u sud call yur fiance n tell him that this is my joora color n kaam tell yur mom abt it, n tell her that gold wont go n u will refuse to wear a gold set... n as for ppl saying "where is the gold" thats just pure pandu talk, n ppl who say that u shouldnt even listen to thier crap.... ideally everyone years diamnds on thier wedding day, why dont u go get a nice diamond set... i dont know whats yur budget ont hese things but thats trend these days, brides wear a nice elgant diamond set that they can wear over n over again, n is a betetr invement than a huge gold set u will never wear again...

n as for wearing fake jewellery, im srry but ive never seen a bride wear fake stuff in pakistan, or anywhere else for that matter, its yur wedding day why wud u wanna wear sake stuff, n u can EASILY tell whats fake n whats not... at least i can... wearing fake stuff is a veryyy indian thing to do...

Starcity... A lot of people nowadays wear fake jewelry because its easier to match fake sets with outfits. As for me, personally, I am not a fan of fake sets for any occassion, but gold with your outfit wouldn't look right. Is it possible for you to ask your inlaws, or have your fiance subtly suggest, that they give you a white gold set since yellow won't match? If not, it's your wedding so wear what will make you happy. I don't know about you, but if I am happy on the inside it will show through (and vice versa) and the wedding day is the one day you definitely don't want to worry about how you look.

A gold set would indeed clash with the outfit you have chosen. Talk to your mother-in-law and discuss the options with her. I don't see any harm in wearing a silver set on your wedding day. Try not to worry about what other ppl' will say and think! You only get to do this once, so wear what ever jewellery you feel comfy in! Hehe!

Brides do it all the time in PK and some sets are so good, that you really can't tell from the fake or the real...unless you are up real close!

Also, even if the set is 'fake' it doesn't mean it is cheap! Some 'fake' sets are really expensive, that you almost feel you are paying for gold! Lol!

poddy... i am indian and i have never in my life seen a bride wear fake jewelry in any of the indian weddings i have been to either here or in india - and i have been to many, although I have seen them in many pakistani weddings. I have aunts/uncles/cousins that are pakistani and told my parents to make sure that my in-laws (my fiance and his fam are pakistani) were giving me real jewelry for my wedding as in pakistan many brides do wear fakes(according to them). My mom subtly bought up the issue and my in-laws were quite upset when I said I don't wear fake jewelry cuz thats what they were going to get me. They said it is the norm in pakistan. They did end up buying me a gold set to wear to the wedding (very hesistantly according to my fiance) but, I think, as for the valima my parents will have to buy me something if I don't want to wear a fake. So its definitely not an indian thing to do or at least not only an indian thing to do.

you can tell your MIL that you are impatient to see your walima jewellery..and if it is a golden set,you can suggest her to get a silver polish done over it. it is not a permanent one.the jewellers here commonly do that on gold one to give it a diamond set like look

otherwise i'll just tell her to get me a fake one- ive seen loads of ppl wear one in the UK cos it matches with their outfit with the right crystals it'll look fine- work with swarovski crystals look close to real nowadays

WEAR whatever jewellery you think that compliments your outfit and alternatively to avoid people having a seizure over the fact that you are wearing fake jewellery, you could ask your in-laws to gift the GOLD jewellery set to you on the stage so to show people.. because afterall, at the end of the day, all it is to these people is "dekhava".

ssbaig lemme rephrase what i meant... i dont think i was clear but i have notcied this a LOT... every single hindu, sikh wedding i been to they ALL have worn fake sets. i think i went to one hindu wedding where the bride wore real stuff... indian musclim is another story i agree, those u r right, they mostly wear real stuff i agree...in pakistan i am suprised to hear what u said, i guess it depends on class, family everything when giving real jewellery, all the weddings i been to in lahore no one has ever worn fake jewellery... thats the 1st im hearing of it... but then it depends on how much money people have etc n other factors

yes..it is silver plated gold..i dont know if they'd do in UK. you can ask a few jewellers who do desi designs though. it is like painting it silver..one of my husband's cousins did that with her bridal set recently. she wanted a red+silver lehnga and her mom insisted on a golden gold set. she got it polished silver and later got it washed(washed is a term used by jewellers )

I have seen this trend mostly here in Canada/US/Europe that brides regardless of Pakistani/Indian wear artificial sets, no offense but you cannot generalize that it is an 'India' thing, I have seen this trend more prevalent in Pakistani brides than indian, I have been to dozens of Indian weddings and never saw any bride wearing arificial sets, and trust me I can tell the difference...

poddy, lots of pakistani brides where fake sets- half the pictures posted in Bridal Pics lately of Pakistani brides, they're wearing fake sets.
fake, of course means that it is sterling silver washed/dipped/painting in 22 k gold, which prompts people to claim its not really fake, which i suppose its not considering its sterling silver, but on the other hand it is fake because its not gold, its just pretending.

that whole trend of sterling silver jewellery washed in gold is HUGE right now- when i was in karachi, thats more or less what was populating the jewellery stores in Gulf and Ashiana.

its technically not "fake" as sgc put it and most of the time, people can't differentiate if its 22k gold or gold plated!

The fake sets are very in esp as they match the dress. The trend now is to match the jewelry to the dress instead of vice versa. So a huge set with purple stones would have its limited uses you would agree. People do still give gold sets, brides may not choose to wear them on their wedding day.

Regarding the original question, gold wouldn't look nice at all with silver. Can you wear it on the barart maybe if your in laws won't relent and the silver wash can't be done in UK?
