hi all,

I will be getting married soon and i wanted to read up on the topic of Mehr in Islam. there are so many definitions people have and everybody seems to have a different point of view. I want to read up on the topic on my own and would appreciate if some of you can point me to some websites on the topic. I am also doing my own Quran research on the topic but would like to read up what other scholars have said

I don't want this thread to turn into a battleground to discuss mehr because my recent experience has told me that there are many many different points of view on the topic and as usual and as is our (desi ppl) habit everybody thinks they are absolutely correct and the other person is not only wrong but they will be going to hell because of their point of view

so again, please point me to websites on the topic

thank you very much

Alienated

Mehr in marriage is an exclusive right of the bride. It may be paid at once after the solemnisation (Nikah) of marriage or any time in life. But if it is not paid during the lifetime, it is considered a debt and like all other debts must be paid from the legacy of the deceased even before distribution of property among the legal heirs.

Hope this helps.
