if that really does happen, thats great...i guess i havent seen that happening, especially since more often now, the bride and groom go to a hotel rather than the groom's house.

@ enigmatica.. I agree.. but I dont understand why people have to make such things into such a big deal when there are so many greater issues about right and wrong to be dealt with.

by reduced, I meant its been reduced to an item used in a rasm the way we use paan leaves in mehndi rasms or dupattas over the bride's head when she walks into the hall.

it's not harmless at all it's a clear bidaa' (innovation) in religion because the Quran is not meant to be used in such a manner nor has it ever been used in such a way in the prophet (S)'s time or by the sahaba after him. just because people don't mean it as disrespect doesn't mean that its not harmful. idol worship started off as a harmless thing, basically people making statues of pious people so that they can be reminded of their good works then slowly people started worshipping them.
im sorry if it sound harsh but its sad that such a thing has become so common in weddings and people actually think its a good thing.

I personally find it offensive that my thread has been merged with this topic. Clearly, my topic is not limited to what the previous thread talks about. I am quite disappointed with the mods action here. Perhaps you can think again about your decision?

Isn't that a matter of concern - Muslim couples not praying? But if we think that way, then what's the point of having the nikkah? because only believing in Allah and putting ibadat aside does not make a Muslim.

Forgive me for being abit ignorant but i always thought a copy of the quran was given to the bride to take with her to her new home and the reason it was held high (no noticing it was placed above the brides head...coz it doesn't happen like that in our weddings) is so that nobody goes 'kand' to the quran, which would be wrong.
