Pakistani flags in three paces in Assam

Amidst rising clashes between indigenous habitants in Bodoland and Assam, Pakistani flags were raised in at least three places creating palpable tension in an already disturbed situation.

IT IS not a Bodo-non Bodo clash but an indigenous-immigrant conflict.

Pakistani flag were hoisted in three places in Sonaripara primary school ground, Kalaigaon and Mohanppur in Udalguri district, Assam amidst escalating Bodo-Muslim clashes on October 4. Some people later removed the flags.

October 5 news dailies from Guwahati, on the eve of Durga Puja are full of disturbing news about imposition of curfew, flag marches by the Army, mob attack on a minister’s convoy, rise in death toll and steps against administrative and police officials and the intelligence so that the Puja is not disturbed.

As incidents of group clashes between Bodos and immigrant Muslims in Udalguri district from October 3 spread to Darrang and Sonitpur districts, the army staged a flag march in Kopati in Darrang district. The death toll touched 25.

Groups of people affected in the clashes are Bodos, Santhals, Bengali, Nepali and immigrant Muslims. About 5,000 people have been rendered homeless. The number of people in 18 camps in Udalguri and eight camps in Darrang rendered homeless are estimated at 40,000. Hostility has brewing between Bodos and non-Bodos on the one hand and illegal migrants on the other for the last two months bur the government of Assam did not respond.

Terror stricken Udalguri district falls under Bodoland Territory Council (BTC) area. The BTC chief and president of the ruling coalition partner BPPF Mr. Hagrama Mohilari holds a third force responsible for these disturbances. The administrative set up in newly formed Udalguri district is still not capable of coping with the situation.

It is reported that seven ministers and a few parliamentary secretaries are camping in the disturbed areas while mob attack on ministers, hooliganism in minister’s presence have also been reported.

It's illegal bangladeshis vs native Bodo tribals and nepalis.

It's time to send these bengalis back to bangladesh or pakistan if they like it so much.

'Sons-of-soil' Muslims face attacks from migrants

ROWTA CHARIALI (Udalguri): The charred courtyard is all that remains of the house that Iqbal Ahmed built from his meagre savings as a farmer. Ahmed, an Assamese-speaking Muslim, watched helplessly as Bangladeshi migrants burned down his home in retaliatory attacks on October 4.

If the communal clashes in Udalguri had their genesis in the conflict between Bodos and Muslims, Rowta Chariali has a different story to tell. The attack on Ahmed's house indicates that the communal flare-up in Udalguri and Darrang is not a simple conflict between two communities. After all, Ahmed is a Muslim and should not have expected an attack from a Muslim.

But it so turned out that he was Assamese-speaking, living in an Assamese neighbourhood. The Bangladeshi migrants who went on a rampage made no further distinction about the target of their fury than the fact that they were all Assamese. Ironically, it was the Bodos who first informed Ahmed that Assamese Muslims, too, were being attacked which, says Ahmed, ''helped me send my family to safety before the mobs struck.

But in the event at least six houses of Assamese Muslims - they are also known as Morias in Rowta Chariali area - were either gutted or looted by migrant Bangladeshis.

Zia-ul-Haque was attacked the same day as Ahmed. Everything he had, including eight cows and six goats, were looted and his four-room house razed. ''The miscreants took away even our bullock cart and a television set. They are from my religion. How could they do this?'' Haque said. Ahmed argued that more than the religion as an identity for Assamese Muslims, it's also their sense of ''indigenousness'' that is paramount for them.

''Morias are indigenous to Assam. Our forefathers were born and buried in this land,'' Ahmed said.

However, the picture was completely different some distance away from Rowta Chariali, at Jargaon. There, Nur Hussain's house was set ablaze on October 4. He says the attackers belonged to ''different communities''.

On Tuesday, the situation in Udalguri showed signs of improvement with no fresh incidents of violence. But suituation remained tense. Nearly a lakh of people have been hit by the violence that began on October 3. Udalguri deputy commissioner Kamal Mahanta said: ''Except the Monday night killing of one person in Bhergaon, there was no fresh report of violence in the district on Tuesday. The situation has considerably improved.''

Muslim population is only 40% and it should be around 65%. Bihari and Bengali Muslim should be encourage to move to Assam to form Muslim Majority.

Yes, but the thread is about India, and I was just reiterating what that Indian was saying.

Based on this, what have we learnt:

- Indian democracy is lousy
- You guys don't like migrants (whom you call untouchables, I mean illegals), mainly because they are Muslim and like Pakistan

Would the US do something similar if illegal Mexicans hoist their country's flag? Keep in mind Pakistan isnt even these people's country and they are still hoisting its flag
