I dont know why this is so hard for you to comprehend. This isnt about nationality, its about prejudice.
Its not about here nationality genius. Its about the fact that if she converts like Bobby Jindel, it will be only to satisfy her electorate, who are prejudice towarsds anyone who isnt a Christian.
Her religion may not affect her nationalism, but it wil affect her chances to be governor. Again, she is laying into the Prejudice. If she runs as a Hindu and wins, more power to her, but more then likely she her religion will be big factor because people are prejudice. If she converts, she would be playing into that prejudice.
Its a matter of self respect.

Why would she run as a Hindu ? She was born Sikh
So now you are holding ME accountable for the white/Christian prejudices in the conservative south of the US ?? Will a Hindu from India win an election in Pak, or a Muslim from Pak win an election in India. Heck, they do not even get votes on musical reality shows
This lady is an American. She can run as whatever she wants. India is not a state formed on religion that our national pride should be hurt if she decides to run as a Christian rather than a Sikh.
Its pretty obvious that you are trolling, but on a lazy Friday afternoon I can afford to indulge you some more...

Why don't they convert to Islam and enjoy all the benefits of being muslims- Allah(swt) bestows upon all good things exclusively to muslims ONLY. Also, if they are not hung on religion why did they had Gujjarat riots or why Sikhs wear and insist on Turbans? BTW, We have tons of Randhawas in Pakistan who are muslims and die-hard ones.

Bobby and Nikki do what they have to, to gain acceptance. It took a single generation's time for americans to be comfortable with brown Indian Faces in power. If these guys do good work, decades later america will be ok with a brown Indian Hindu in power.

Im not holding you responsible for anything dummy... All im saying is that a person who is converting to satisfy the prejudiced requirements of her electorate, is doing a disservice to her people and her culture. And just because it happens in Pakistan does make it right, or are you suddenly hold Pakistan up as your standard?
And I would let you know, India is no different, unless your delusional about thhat aswell... But this isnt about India or Pakistan. But for the recorD, I wouldnt expect or want a Hindu in Pak or Muslim in India to run under those circumstances.
This lady is an American, but she obviously CANT run as whatever she wants. If she wants to win, she has to convert to Christianity... Thats the problem. If winning means you have to change yourself to satisfy others, then there is no point in running...

I agree with Med911. Both Jindal and Randhawa turned their backs on their religion and culture for the sake of political expediency. I've seen this trend among Hindus, and also Sikhs. Not among Muslims. While Hindus may call this "freedom" and "personal choice", I call it selfishness and cowardice.

So would many others among the pioneers of the civil rights movement in America.
If these same Indians were in place of Rosa Parks, they would have been content to sit in the back and claim its a privlege to simply be allowed on the bus and be driven home.
Anyone with any sense of dignity would say its an insult...

Well if his conversion is personal then more power to him. And if this woma running for governor no remains sikh then all respect to her.
But the question still remains, why did he convert? Was it to fit in, or was it personal affirmation of the christian faith? Bobby grew up in Lousiana, which is a very Christian environment... So you have to wonder what really motivated his conversion.
And ofcourse he converted when he was a no body. If he had converted when he became a somebody, his electorate would have known it was politically motivated.

You have stayed in that cave for long, so you dont have much knowledge about what is happening in the world much less on what has happened in history .... My sincere advice is to read about history ...... go back and do some research on what Indian origin people have achieved in US ... In particular i would like you to look for someone called Dalip singh Saund

Not necessarily true.
There are two Muslims in the US Congress...both managed to get elected without converting.

Great circular logic here. At 17 he already knew he was going to become a governor. Quick, accept Jesus Christ!

Isn't this how conversions work? Do you think someone just gets up one day and says he wants to be <insert religions here>? All those people who convert to Islam are usually influenced by someone or some people they associate with. A very common theme amongst converts is how they knew someone who invited them to the masjid or a Muslim related event and that's when they started paying attention.
