In bowing out as Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin harkened back to her high school basketball days - although there was no sign of the "Barracuda," as she was nicknamed for her ability to cut through the opposing team's offenses. In a hastily called press conference on the eve of a three-day holiday, Palin presented herself as a point guard exhausted by the "full court press from the national level." The 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee explained how the metaphorical point guard should respond. "She drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her head up because she needs to keep her eye on the basket, and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can win," Palin said. "And I know when it's time to pass the ball for victory." Or take a timeout, as the case may be.
Palin's stunning announcement raised more questions than it answered: Is she bowing out of public life? Is there a more nefarious reason for her resignation after only two-and-half years in office - yet another G.O.P. scandal in the offing? Or is the woman who tops most G.O.P. 2012 shortlists to challenge Barack Obama stepping down to get a head start on her next presidential campaign? Palin took no questions after her unscripted, rambling address, and her comments seemed to hint both ways: that she's "passing the ball" of elected office, and that she plans on working for all Americans, not just Alaskans. "Some are going to question the timing of this and let me just say that this decision has been in the works for a while. In fact this decision comes after much consideration," Palin said, holding up her left index finger as she amended her thought, "Much prayer and consideration. And finally, I polled the most important people in my life, my kids. And the count was unanimous. While in response to asking, 'Hey, do you want me to be a positive influence and fight for all our children's futures from outside the governor's office?' it was four yeses and one 'Hell, yeah.' The 'Hell, yeah' sold it." (TIME Photographs: Sarah Palin.)

whoa! didn't see that coming.
What do you make of this? Good decision/bad decision? underlying issues?

There are news surfacing that Palin may have resigned due to unresolved campaign issues. She is being dubbed as being "paranoid" by many, some of whom happen to be her own party members (Republicans).
She was said to have become paranoid recently, and when asked to take up a proposal on Capitol Hill she lashed out at her colleagues saying "Why am i always being put under the spot light"...
Wow. I'd say the campaign and true "politics" of presidency have taken a toll on her.
What chances are there of her running for President/Vice president again. Is her party comfortable with her as a candidate? I'd say the internal pressure played a greater role in her resigning, because days after the campaign came to an end she accused her campaign committee of betraying her and making her look bad.
I have not been able to find the source for what i said regarding her paranoia, because i heard it on NPR a few days ago.

Palin just can't seem to stay away from headlines even while off the mainstream media
By RACHEL D'ORO, Associated Press Writer Rachel D'oro, Associated Press Writer – Tue Jul 21, 7:58 pm ET
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – An independent investigator has found evidence that Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated ethics laws by trading on her position in seeking money for legal fees, in the latest legal distraction for the former vice presidential candidate as she prepares to leave office this week.
The report obtained by The Associated Press says Palin is securing unwarranted benefits and receiving improper gifts through the Alaska Fund Trust, set up by supporters.
An investigator for the state Personnel Board says in his July 14 report that there is probable cause to believe Palin used or attempted to use her official position for personal gain because she authorized the creation of the trust as the "official" legal defense fund.
The practical effect of the ruling on Palin will be more financial than anything else. The report recommends that Palin refuse to accept payment from the defense fund, and that the complaint be resolved without a formal hearing before the board.
Palin posted an entry on Twitter in which she said the "matter is still pending," a statement echoed by her lawyer.
