Lets pray us all for justice for sister Marwa El Sheribini

Berlin, Germany (CNN) -- A German man accused of stabbing to death a pregnant Muslim woman in a Dresden courtroom goes on trial Monday -- in the same court and amid tight security.

Police will cordon off streets around Dresden state court during the proceedings. And about 200 officers will stand guard when the man, identified only as Alex W., stands trial on murder and other charges.

The defendant -- a 29-year-old unemployed ethnic Russian -- is accused of stabbing Marwa El-Sherbini 18 times in front of her 3-year-old son during a defamation hearing in the court in July.

When her husband rushed to help Sherbini, a security guard called to the scene confused him for the attacker and shot him.

The killing of Sherbini, a pharmacist who was three months pregnant, stirred outrage in the Muslim world, especially in her native Egypt.

Many accused Germany of lax security and for not adequately protecting its minority Muslim population from a new wave of hatred against Arabs.

Sherbini moved to Dresden in 2003 after the husband received a grant to study genetic engineering in the Max Planck Institute. He was scheduled to present his doctoral thesis when Sherbini was killed.

The case stemmed from an incident in August 2008 at a public playground when Sherbini asked the man to move his niece from a swing so her son Mustafa could use it.

The man responded by calling Sherbini -- who wore a headscarf -- "terrorist" and "Islamist," prosecutors said.

Sherbini, 33, sued him for insult and abuse. A court found the man guilty of defamation and fined him €780 ($1,172).

Alex W. appealed the ruling.

The two sides appeared in court again on July 1. After Sherbini had finished testifying, the man allegedly pulled out a knife from his backpack and attacked her.

He also allegedly stabbed her husband three times and attacked another person.

According to media reports, police officers tried to intervene to end the fight, and a number of shots were fired. One hit the husband, sending him to a hospital where he lay in a coma for two days.

Anger in the Arab world was fanned by the muted German reaction soon after the incident. The country's media perfunctorily reported on the incident and did not touch upon the racist aspect of the killing. Egyptians held up the response as a sign of Islamophobia.

Hundreds attended Sherbini's funeral in her hometown of Alexandria in Egypt, and Muslims also angrily protested in Berlin.

The Egyptian culture ministry, at the request of the Sherbini family, has canceled two previously scheduled concerts by a German orchestra this week.

The head of the Egyptian Bar Association will attend the trial, as will the Egyptian ambassador to Berlin.

Husam Zaki, a spokesman for Egypt's foreign ministry, said the country has hired a group of "highly qualified legal experts" to act as co-plaintiffs in the trial and will foot their expenses.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.

If time is not real, then the dividing line between this world and eternity, between suffering and bliss, between good and evil, is also an illusion.

actually they didnt do nothing....they shot her husband iirc in the confusion that ensued. i think this was an odd case which is partly to blame on the media and WOT for the worldwide hysteria it has caused, although the sanity of the accused has to be suspect

I am only commenting on your post here.

confusion: It makes it look like, the person who fired, did not make sure where he was aiming. Confusion is not what should make someone use firearm in any such place. It appears that in a place where people were present, this man took out the knife and husband was only defending his wife.

sanity: This word makes it look like this was just a crime of insanity.

Since the trial is on, not knowing the whole situation, then no further comments.

i dont know what happend for sure so you can, if you want, hold me for my words if the court reveals something else in the coming days

its unlikely that the courtroom which saw the violence had an armed officer present. there would, however, be one armed team in the court complex

from here on in, you can imagine the scene which the armed response came into.

sanity and insanity are very broad words. how well could he have been to commit such a crime?

i have also mentioned the religious factor to this, and the cause which has diverted the neo nazi's from foreign haters to extreme muslim haters.

the other aspect to this murder is the attention it has got. it is a cruel murder, a horrendous racially and religiously motivated murder of an innocent women and her unborn child. but if you think blacks, turks, pakistanis, algerians etc are not committing cruel crimes on the scale of this in europe you are mistaken. they'll be people suffering rightnow due to a horrendous act of an immigrant.

ok i'll abandon my planned ambush of some unsupecting person who wants to make a showcase of this case and just get what i wanted to say off my chest.

this is not a case for showcasing, this was a just a racially motivated murder, if ever there could be one, and the german establishment cannot be held over responsible for the tradegy. it would be wrong to over persue this matter although the racial and religious aspects should be addressed. perhaps egypt should stop demonising germany and start to put their own confidence into muslims by opening the gates at the gaza concentration camp

Artistic

I just ask myself how it is able to kill someone with a knife in such a building? I'd expect a gunned down maneuver, but killed like this? Something has to be wrong with the security system in Germany. All in all policemen in this world are the same. The only difference is some have modern toys and some policemen drive with their bycycle to the work!
