Good news! That's another slap in the face for the Northern Alliance puppets and their foreign backerd. It's about time the outside world woke up the realities in Afghanistan and started dealing with the Taliban as the one, united and legitimate government of all Afghnaista. Then this wretched country can come out of this externally-imposed isolation and bring relief to it's people.
Taliban consolidating positions

ISLAMABAD - Taliban have said that they have purged the strategic Yakawlang district in Bamyan province of the presence of the opposition Northern Alliance forces and are consolidating their positions.
“Now there is no existence of the opponents in the area and the forces of the Islamic army are in full control of the situation.” Taliban spokesman, Abdul Hai Mutmaen told the BBC.
He said that the Islamic army has conquered the district and the militiaman have fled.
He said that this is a mountainous region and the fleeing opposition forces can find shelter.
“However, they are not a force to pose any threat.
They made their presence felt in the area by taking advantage of the weather, but now they have fled.” Mutmaen admitted that the opposition forces had succeeded in capturing the Yakawlang with the collaboration of the local elements whom he termed handful of people.
Commenting on Band-e-Ameer area, the spokesman said that it is not a strategic area.
The opposition forces had emerged there but the Mujahideen of the Islamic Army launched offensive on Yakawlang from this area.
Where are all those Indian's and anti-Taliban conspirators now? Once the Taliban finish off the Northern Allinace these conspirators are next in line, and God help the likes of the Indians and the Russians.
PESHAWAR, Jan 13: Taliban made strategic gains and killed 25 opposition fighters in renewed clashes in the north of Afghanistan, the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) reported. As many as 80 fighters from the anti-Tliban faction led by warlord Ahmed Shah Masood were captured, the report said. The dominant militia seized control of Khawajaghar, in northern Takhar province, and crossed the Kokcha river, AIP said
Severe blow to opposition
Updated on 1/14/2001 11:41:46 AM
KABUL (Agencies) - Taliban scored major victories against oppositionforces Saturday, capturing two key districts in northern Takhar province, a Taliban official said. The Taliban seized Hajaghar and Ikhanum districts, near Afghanistan’s northern frontier with the Central Asian state of Tajikistan, Abdul Wakil Omar, a Taliban spokesman in the Afghan capital of Kabul, said.
But the northern-based opposition rejected the Taliban claim and said the ruling militia’s assault had been repulsed.
No confirmation of the contradictory claims was immediately available because of the remoteness of the embattled region.
Hajaghar and Ikhanum are key routes from Tajikistan to opposition forces on the battlefield in northern Afghanistan.
If the Taliban have captured them it would be a severe blow to the opposition, led by ousted president Burhanuddin Rabbani and his deposed defense chief Ahmed Shah Massood.
Backed by fighter planes, tanks and artillery, the Taliban attacked the two districts forcing opposition troops to flee.
Scores of fighters were killed.
The Taliban also captured Hajaghar’s airport, some 350 kilometres (210 miles) north of Kabul.
They said they were now trying to capture the nearby district of Dasht-i-Qala.
The Taliban, who captured most of Takhar province last year in a string of victories, had lost Hajaghar and Ikhanum to the opposition in November.
The Taliban government is fighting opposition forces on several fronts in an attempt to capture the entire country.
The opposition, made up of ethnic and religious minorities, has been squeezed into several small pockets, mostly in the country’s Northeast.
Despite international isolation and the United Nations’ sanctions, the Taliban have maintained a firm grip on the areas they control and are gradually expanding their rule in the country’s northern regions, which once were considered opposition strongholds.
The Taliban accuse Russia of arming and supporting the opposition.
The latest Taliban victories come just days before fresh UN sanctions against the Taliban take effect to press the ruling militia to hand over Saudi billionaire Osama Bin Laden to the United States or a third country for trial.

If this carries on the Taliban will have all of Afghanistan in their hands very soon. Maybe the Taliban are moving fast and with full force to capture all the rest before the new sanctions come into place. And before the US-Russis-India have a chance to strike at the Taliban?
Excellent news.
I just hope this ends quickly and that the taliban control the whole country.
It will be best for the people and country and region.
Also very good for pakistan, as we can send these refugees back.
Hey Youngbrat could you keep us up-to-date with the taliban news, as i never see anything on it in the newspapers.
Taliban Zindabad!!!!

Omar rules out shift in Taliban policies
Updated on 1/14/2001
Monitoring ReportPESHAWAR - The Supreme leader of Taliban Mulla Muhammad Omar has said that they would not back out from their stand and principle even if the entire world turns against them.
In an interview, Afghan leader said that Russians and Amercians would not make them change their stance, but ``We are firm on our just and right stand and at any cast we will leave our stand.
Asked what would they do against the new curbs, Mulla Omar said that the sanctions are not new thing.
``we faced the sanctions in past and are still facing sanctions’’.
He said that such sanctions were imposed against the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) as well and its objectives are the same.
He said that Taliban would do what Holy Prophet (PBUH) did against such curbs.
